CUBA'S
ETERNAL
NIGHT
Subjects
The subjects of Cuba’s Eternal Night are five individuals whose personal journeys reveal the untold stories
of a nation in crisis, each navigating the delicate balance between survival and resistance.

CAMILA ACOSTA
Camila is a Cuban journalist and Havana-based correspondent for the Spanish newspaper ABC. In a country where independent journ- alism is a crime, her reporting has made her a target. Detained mult- iple times by Cuban authorities, she continues to expose the truth despite the risks. During part of the documentary’s filming, Camila was serving an eight-month house arrest sentence.

FR. ALBERTO REYES
Fr. Alberto is a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Camagüey, serving in the small town of Esmeralda—just miles from where he was born and raised. In the heart of central Cuba, he ministers to a community struggling through deep hardship, offering faith and resilience in a place where hope is often in short supply.

ARIADNA MENA RUBIO
Ariadna is a human rights activist and mother of two, living in the heart of Havana. For years, she has been a target of the Cuban government—punished for daring to speak out. But despite the constant threats, intimidation, and surveillance, she refuses to be silenced. Her fight for freedom is not just for herself, but for the future of her children and her country.

EMILIO ROMÁN MATOS
Emilio is a father fighting for justice for his three children who were imprisoned for joining the historic July 11, 2021, protests. Living in Barrio La Güinera, one of Havana’s poorest neighborhoods, Emilio faces daily hardship, including trying to secure the food and medicine his children desperately need behind bars.

CARLOS RAUL MACIAS
Carlos Raúl is a young student, tour guide, and translator from Jovellanos, Cuba. He lives with his brother and parents, balancing his studies with the daily challenges of life on the island. As he nears graduation, he dreams of marrying his girlfriend and moving to Havana.
